Helen Bertelli

SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT

During her childhood in the United Kingdom, Helen inherited a love of law, politics, and science from her professor father that laid the foundation for her passion for learning and addiction to Scientific American Magazine. Though a career as a physicist eluded her (too much math), she discovered her love of the English language during her time at UVA and Oxford University. At Hellerman Baretz Communications Helen has cultivated a career that combines her academic interests and research experience with her enthusiasm for writing and marketing.

Hard work, learning, and a positive, creative attitude has characterized Helen’s career, and her journey has shaped her into a consummate, trusted professional.  In the beginning, as an English and Astronomy teacher at Philips Andover, she learned patience and humility. As a paralegal at a top law firm in Washington, she learned the meaning of hard work. Later, at a prominent DC agency, she honed her PR skills and learned to manage a team to generate several million dollars of revenue a year. Then, as the founding Director of Marketing at a national law firm, she learned the big picture: how marketing and PR, done right, can be critical to a company’s bottom line.

Helen's enduring goal is to produce tangible results that help her clients build their businesses. For example, one of her campaigns on behalf of a major law firm helped turn an investment of $40K into more than $1 million in revenue. And during her tenure in-house she spearheaded various business development campaigns that bought new business to her firm and garnered national recognition for their creativity, including the Legal Marketing Association's coveted "Your Honor" Award.

Helen has spoken at regional and national conferences, she has been published in the Legal Times, Washington Business Journal, and Marketing the Law Firm, and her work has been the subject of articles in Professional Marketing Magazine and PRWeek. Helen graduated with honors from the University of Virginia and also studied writing at Oxford University in the United Kingdom. She has been a member of the Legal Marketing Association since 1998 and has served on various chapter Boards throughout her career.
