  • Which sites are the most effective and how to use them to get business.

  • Important Bar limitations and considerations.
  • Technical no no’s—how not to bring down your firm’s computer systems.

Why Cool Coaching? Consider that more than 72.5% of the US population is online and 35% of adult users are on social networking sites.  According to the ABA, the number of lawyers on LinkedIn now approaches 750,000, having quadrupled in less than a year. If you’re a professional, it’s time to get with it on social media.

Think about these true stories:

  • A VP for Ketchum Vice President tweeted “I would die if I had to live here!” while visiting clients in FedEx’s hometown of Memphis. FedEx was furious and almost fired Ketchum.
  • Criminal defense lawyer Mark Meisinger uses a MySpace page to communicate with prospective clients, providing tips on liability issues. His strategy has bought him several new clients.
  • A Florida lawyer blew off steam in his personal blog about Cheryl Aleman, a prominent but controversial judge. He now faces ethics charges by the Florida Bar.
  • The lead prosecutor in an assault case against an NFL star was charged with “prosecutorial misconduct” after posting articles about the trial on his MySpace account.

Sites such as Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter have the potential to raise profiles, strengthen client relationships, and even make or break a trial. But law firms must also take preventative measures to avoid social media faux-paus and other downsides.

HBC's Cool Coaching: we get it, and we'll teach it to you.
